Yoke by Jessamyn Stanley5/13/2023 And in the end, Jessamyn invites every reader to find the authentic spirit of yoke-linking that good and that bad, that light and that dark. And reveals what she calls her own "whole-ass problematic": Growing up Baháì, loving astrology, learning to meditate, finding prana in music. She questions why the Western take on yoga so often misses-or misuses-the tradition's spiritual dimension. She calls out an American yoga complex that prefers debating the merits of cotton versus polyblend leggings rather than owning up to its overwhelming Whiteness. In a series of deeply honest, funny autobiographical essays, Jessamyn explores everything from imposter syndrome to cannabis to why it's a full-time job loving yourself, all through the lens of yoke. In Sanskrit, yoga means to "yoke." To yoke mind and body, movement and breath, light and dark, the good and the bad. Finding self-acceptance both on and off the mat.

Reign of Wrath by Eva Ashwood5/13/2023 Things picked right up from Queen of Anarchy and there really was no dull moment. from book one where I gave it a 3, this has steadily got better and better. I knew it was going to end on another gigantic one and the dread was building but, hell, I'm glad the final book is coming out soon. It is book 3 of 4.įirst off, fuck that cliffhanger lol. This book contains dark themes and possible triggers, so please read at your own discretion. Reign of Wrath is a full length mafia/gang new adult romance featuring a slightly psycho heroine and four even more psychotic men. He’ll be dead, and we’ll be dancing on his ashes. With the Kings of Chaos by my side, I’m going to dismantle his life piece by piece. So I’m going to take everything from him. Now there’s only one name that whispers through my mind like a siren call to my demons. I held her in my arms while she took her last breath, and now I don’t feel like I can breathe. But now they’ve unleashed the devil in me. Note: The blurb below contains spoilers, so I'd highly recommend not reading it until you're caught up on the series, starting with book one, Kings of Chaos. Reign of Wrath is the thrilling third installment in the Dirty Broken Savages series.

Books are the center of the story, and one particular book drives the narrative and the life of our main protagonist, Daniel Sempere. The novel itself is in the style of a noir gothic novel with an historical fiction element attached to it. This book written by Spanish author Carlos Ruiz Zafon is clearly a love letter to the art of reading, writing, and books themselves. This is the only book I’ve read three times and frankly, I may read it again years from now. I read it in English in high school, in Spanish when I lived in Boston, and once again last month in Spanish. The Shadow of the Wind is one of my favorite books. Rating details 1,001 ratings 135 reviews When Mirka gets a job in a country house in rural England, she has no idea of the struggle she faces to make sense of a very English couple, and a way of life that is entirely alien to her. If never quite taking off, this aspect of the book rumble along gently in the background, and Kaye has a keen eye for social observation – a scene of multiple polite “Afternoons” between passing dog walkers had me chuckling. Though my debut novel English Animals is in many parts a satire, I have recently moved away from this towards something. Shades of Cold Comfort Farm – Mirka goes to work in a large rural house, home to eccentric drunks Sophie and Richard – meet more contemporary concerns, namely immigration and a snobbish type of English bigotry. cheated-on wife on its head' Laura Kaye, author of English Animals 'A taut and lyrical novel about cosily calibrated lives coming spectacularly undone. This odd creation is the perfect metaphor for English Animals, a rather strange beast all of its own. T owards the end of Laura Kaye’s debut, her heroine, Mirka – a Slovakian lesbian trying to build a new life in England – visits a taxidermy shop in London’s East End, and finds “a cat with the wings of a white bird”.

Like his Whig heroes Henry Clay and Daniel Webster, Lincoln opposed the spread of slavery to the territories, and had a grand vision of the expanding United States, with a focus on commerce and cities rather than agriculture.ĭid you know? The war years were difficult for Abraham Lincoln and his family. After settling in the town of New Salem, Illinois, where he worked as a shopkeeper and a postmaster, Lincoln became involved in local politics as a supporter of the Whig Party, winning election to the Illinois state legislature in 1834. In 1830, his family moved to Macon County in southern Illinois, and Lincoln got a job working on a river flatboat hauling freight down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. Lincoln’s formal schooling was limited to three brief periods in local schools, as he had to work constantly to support his family. His family moved to southern Indiana in 1816. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, to Nancy and Thomas Lincoln in a one-room log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky. Abraham Lincoln's Childhood and Early Life

Catwoman tim sale5/13/2023 The Cat affectionately wraps her arms around Batman and says they should join forces and become the king and queen of crime. What’s more, it’s clear from the beginning that there’s a strong attraction between the two. When Batman unmasked the thief, he was stunned to see that she was actually a beautiful young woman. In 1940’s Batman #1 ,a mysterious burglar known as the Cat tried to rob a group of elite yacht passengers. Why is that? To explore this question, let’s take a look at the history of their romance. After eight decades of “will they or won’t they,” Batman and Catwoman haven’t been able to make it work, and yet, they refuse to call it quits. Yet, even not having seen the movie yet, we’re pretty sure it won’t end with them grappeling off in the sunset together. This spring, Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz will be bringing the Bat-Cat passion to the big screen in The Batman, introducing a new generation of fans to Gotham’s most complicated love affair. At their very cores, they’re in direct opposition of one another, and yet the flames of romance between the two have been burning bright for over eighty years. Batman catches criminals, and Catwoman is a criminal. It can be distance, communication, or meddling relatives, but for Batman and Catwoman, it’s a bit more complicated. |
